Biography
Boom youngster, born in NZ but technically a G’Coast junior (Nerang), made his first grade debut in 2003 whilst studying for his HSC. Marshall showed his potential as a centre/five-eighth but a shoulder injury prematurely ended his 2004 season. Although he injured his other shoulder in a pre-season trial in 2005 he made his Test debut in the 32-16 loss to Australia in April. Marshall’s blistering speed, deceptive step and uncanny ball skills inspired the W’Tigers into the grand final and his piece of ‘Benji magic’ which resulted in a try to winger Pat Richards was the turning point of the match. Marshall was on the interchange bench for NZ in the 50-12 loss to Australia in May but popped his right shoulder for a second time and missed most of the season.

How can anyone be critical of this guy.when we look at his history of injuries and comebacks and has the ability to go round again in 2018. In my opinion of 70yrs.watching our great game I have not seen a more consistent or fairer and cleaner player.whenever he hangs up his boots he will go down as one of our really great all round players. Thanks Benji.

Extraordinarily gifted five-eighth who could fill volumns of dvds with his highlight reel plays. Most deceptive sleight of hand, and devasting sidestep and fakes in the history of the game.
Honestly if Benji doesnt exist all of NZs competion victories (Tri-Nations, World Cup, four nations etc) wouldnt have happened and the West Tigers dont win their 2005 premiership. Watching the sheer amount of wizardry in his highlight reels on you tube makes all other playmakers highlight reels look ordinary which is a testament to his skill set and his true standing in the game. Immortal in waiting surely.

Greatest Kiwi League player of all time - Golden boot 2010, grand final 2005, 4 nations 2010, world cup 2008 winner. I hope he makes the 300 NRL appreances in 2019.

Where do I even start. The season of 2005! My heart couldn’t stop racing the whole time, like a schoolgirl in love!
About 7 years ago a friend let me in on Benji’s home adress in New Zealand, and I camped out there in my car for a whole week in my west-tigers jersey just to get a glimpse of him! Not in a creepy way though lol. After a week I gave up because I ran out of rations and mum got worried.

Will forever be the best rugby league player I have ever seen. The brilliance, the competitiveness and the compassion he has is unrivalled. When you take the time to see the records he has against other greats like Thurston, you realise he is a once in a lifetime player. Benji has the ability to bring grown men to tears with his incredibly ability and i, and many others, are grateful for all the amazing moments he has given us and Rugby League

Apart from 2005 flick pass magic to Pat Richards the best piece of magic I’ll never forget was pass behind his back to Blake Ashford To score in the corner against Eels. I could watch it over and over. Thanks Benji.

Benji is my magic. Majority of PNGs rugby fans now were inspired by his extraordinary skill sets and talent (no-look pass, side steps, faking pass, etc). If there is an award for inspiring a generation then Benji definitely getting it.

One of the most exciting player ever played the game! His stepping, flick passes, try assists and skipping through the defense, glorious player to watch and steel of character. Benji you will always be remembered as one of the greatest in rugby league.

NO ONE has a better highlights package than Benji. I was there the day he set up that try in Cronulla, for me, the greatest try of all time. Watch it now - nothing compares to him at his peak. Legend :)
